This is Why We Lied

Karin Slaughter

Kayleigh's Thoughts

This Is Why We Lied is the 12th book in Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent series, a dark, gripping crime thriller featuring GBI agent Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton. While on a trip at a remote mountain lodge, a bone-chilling murder of the lodge manager changes everything. Trapped at the isolated McAlpine Lodge by a violent storm and a washed-outroad, Will, Sara, and the other guests realize one of them must be the killer—all of them are hiding secrets and motives.

The novel functions as both a locked-room mystery and a deep dive into family dysfunction, where decades-long lies and trauma are gradually uncovered as Will and Sara race to uncover the truth before the killer strikes again. It’s fast-paced, emotionally intense, and full of the twists and moral complexity readers expect from Slaughter.

This book made me question every character’s motive.
