Kayleigh's Thoughts
Hello Beautiful is a contemporary literary fiction novel often described as a modern homage to Little Women. It centers around four sisters who are deeply bonded in childhood, but whose lives begin to fracture as they grow up and face individual emotional, relational, and mental health challenges. Despite the inspiration, the story lacks the same warmth and camaraderie that defines Little Women; instead, the narrative leans heavily into conflict, resentment, and emotional isolation.
A pivotal shift in the plot occurs around the halfway mark, introducing new characters and emotional depth that somewhat redeem the earlier tone. One such character, Alice, stands out as a beacon in the narrative—bringing humanity and healing into a story largely marked by tension. Ultimately, while the book offers moments of redemption and beauty, it may not satisfy readers hoping for the cozy sisterhood dynamics it seems to promise.
The ending gave it heart, but the rest left me frustrated and disconnected.
