Lessons from Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Lent Series Week 5)
Today, we venture into a section of Scripture that is heart-breaking to those of us who love Jesus. The passages that capture Jesus’ final days are difficult to read, but they are also very, very crucial to understanding why he came. Through Jesus’ example in the Garden of Gethesemane, we can see how he faced difficulty and sadness, and know that he understands our struggles too.
Matthew 17 and 26: Jesus in Community
Often, we let these familiar moments in Jesus’ life foster our vision of Jesus as a solo climber, trekking to the highest of spiritual heights and fighting single-handed battles in the depths of spiritual darkness. But if we look closer at these stories from Matthew, in the Transfiguration and the Garden of Gethsemane, we will see something crucial: Jesus was never alone.
