The Broken Earth Trilogy

Kayleigh's Thoughts

This award-winning dystopian fantasy trilogy is nothing short of ambitious—with a uniquely crafted world, powerful themes, and a magic system unlike anything else. While the poetic writing style and layered timelines can be disorienting (especially in The Fifth Season), those who push through will be rewarded with an emotionally weighty and thought-provoking narrative in The Obelisk Gate. However, the momentum stalls in The Stone Sky with a colder, less engaging POV that blunts the trilogy’s emotional payoff. Overall, it’s a brilliant concept with a mixed execution—perfect for readers who love literary-style fantasy with strong social commentary.

A bold and brutal saga of survival, injustice, and earth-shattering power that’s as poetic as it is provocative.
