Kayleigh's Thoughts
In Pretty Girls, Karin Slaughter crafts a gripping, gritty psychological thriller centered around two sisters, Claire and Lydia, whose lives were forever changed when their older sister Julia went missing twenty years prior. After Claire’s husband dies unexpectedly, the sisters are drawn back into Julia’s case in a twist-filled and emotionally intense story that unravels long-held secrets. The novel offers a raw, immersive look into trauma, survival, and justice.
The prequel short story, Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes, focuses on Julia’s disappearance and provides added context. While not essential to read, it offers extra backstory for those invested in the main novel, and is recommended to read it after you’ve read Pretty Girls.
This is the darkest thriller I’ve ever read, and somehow, it became my favorite Karin Slaughter book.
