The writer of Hebrews uses a metaphor for life in verse 12:13, by speaking as a coach to his running team. Before a runner sets himself on a race, he examines the track carefully because unevenness can make him vulnerable to a fall, especially when he gets tired. If the path is not leveled, neither advanced runners or weak runners can finish the race well. When we stay on the right path of life following Jesus, we bring healing not only to our lives but also the life of others, and we finish the race well.
