God Revealed in Jesus Christ on the Cross (Lent Series, Week 6)
Here are the words of Jesus, beaten and bloodied, uttered from the cross on which he died:
“Father, forgive them.” (Luke 23:34). “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43) “Dear woman, here is your son.” (John 19:26) God not only preaches forgiveness, he gives it. God not only desires for all men to have eternal life, he grants it. God not only commands us to think of others first, he does it.
Reflecting on Jesus’ Death on the Cross; Good Friday (Lent Series Week 7)
Our sin brings death into the world, making it the end of all our lives and separating us from God. Our rebellion brought about consequences that we cannot remedy on our own, and without any sort of intervention this is how it would have remained. But in his mercy, the God who created us volunteered to enter the game, face the enemy, taste the consequence of our rebellion, and destroy it forever. Only with the death of Jesus on Good Friday do we get the joy of Easter Sunday.
What Does the Cross Mean for You?
I want to bring your attention to just a few verses about the cross today. Something to get you thinking, so that when you put on your cross jewelry, or you see a cross on a church steeple, you think about it in a new way this week.
