Instead of worrying about the “perfect” holiday atmosphere, JoHannah realized that she should be more concerned with how to keep her family focused on the true meaning of Christmas, and celebrating the birth of Jesus more than the secular trappings. Here are a few ideas that worked for her, and let us know how you stay focused on Jesus in this busy season.
Waiting with Joy and Hope in the Advent Season
Waiting can be very difficult, but in the season of Advent, we are reminded to embrace joy and hope as we wait; that Messiah has come and we are redeemed. Let’s show the world a Christmas season of beautiful anticipation, and cling to God’s promises as we celebrate his coming; this time of precious, hopeful, joyous Advent, even as we wait.
Don’t Miss Christmas; There’s More to the Story
I know so many people who don't think that the Christmas story is relevant anymore, and this crowd probably also didn't see Christmas right in front of them, or why it mattered to them. It's easy to miss it, isn't it? Are you going to seek Jesus this season, invite him to be "God with us" in your life? Are you going to marvel like Mary and Joseph at what God is doing in your very midst, at the promises that were made that are being fulfilled?
Remember Christmas When God Seems Silent
This is just a sampling of the many people in the Bible who have these seasons in their lives when they felt God was silent and unavailable. These are amazing men and women of God, aren't they? If they struggle with this, we know that it's OK if we do, too.
Searching for Happiness, or Joy That Comes From God
Happiness is not a bad thing, but it can be misleading. We can see how seeking happiness, rather than joy, got the first humans, Adam and Eve, in trouble. They were created by God in his image, were placed in a perfect environment with everything they would need, in the very presence of God, in relationship with him, and there was only one condition. God said, "You cannot eat from that tree."
