At the Heart of Trochia’s Mission: A Level Path

Welcome to Trochia! Yes, that’s how it’s pronounced: ‘tro-kee-ah.” Trochia is the Greek word for path found in Hebrews 12:12-13,“Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. ‘Make level paths for your feet,’ so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.” The writer of Hebrews uses a metaphor for life, by speaking as a coach to his running team. Before a runner sets himself on a race, he examines the track carefully because unevenness can make him vulnerable to a fall, especially when he gets tired. If the path is not leveled, neither advanced runners or weak runners can finish the race well. The main point of this passage is that when we stay on the right path of life following Jesus, we bring healing not only to our lives but also the life of others, and we finish the race well.

This is an important passage for me because I’ve spent plenty of years on the wrong, unleveled path.

As a young woman, I relied on the wisdom of the world, my own will and especially my desires to guide my decisions; and too many of them ended up being poor decisions for which I live with consequences today. As you get to know me on this site, I will share more of my story, but the short version is that I made a mess of my life through bad decisions, bad relationships and terrible outcomes. By the time I was 40, I was walking my path towing a U-Haul truck of shame, regrets and consequences. Finally, the weight my decisions was just too heavy, and one morning while I was watering my plants I could not even decide how long to water or which plants to water. I was frozen and started crying as I realized just how out-of-control my life had become. I completely flooded my plants while I came to the realization that I needed to change the way I made decisions. I needed to “make level” my path and only God could help me with that.

I started attending a local church, read the Bible for the first time and became a follower of Christ. Since then, God has transformed my life as I embrace his love and grace, take on a biblical worldview and rely on the wisdom found in Bible to guide my every day decisions. I started Trochia because I desire to continue to mature in my faith in Jesus Christ, keep my path leveled and to help others who want the same.

We make many decisions in our lives, and maybe out of desperation or lack of wisdom, we make long-term decisions with a short-term mindset.

Without someone to guide us, short-term habits are hard to break – that’s why the Bible is so important, because God promises to guide us through it, with the power of the Holy Spirit, giving us eternal truths instead of our own finite view of our lives. That is why the resources you’ll find here on Trochia are grounded in Scripture.

Mentoring is at the heart of Trochia’s mission.

Here you will find a variety of articles, blog posts, podcasts and videos produced by a team of mature Christians who wish to help you draw from Scripture wisdom for every day decisions. No matter what circumstance you find yourself in, the Bible has universal and timeless truths that can help you discern, think, and do well.

The idea of mentoring is scriptural, as we see in our theme verse and elsewhere in the Bible. For example, Paul calls on the body of Christ to understand that no part of the body exists for itself (1 Cor. 12:12-27). Each part is accountable to the whole and the whole takes care of the individual parts. The “strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak” (Romans 15:1). The more experienced ought to support, in love, the inexperienced. Mentoring is essential to the health of “the body of him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:14-16). By sharing with humility from personal experiences, more mature believers can provide others with wisdom, support, empathy and help them grow and become mentors themselves.
